Jews, Muslims, Unitarians, Jehova’s Witnesses, and Mormons, Need To Connect The Biblical Dots

September 16, 2011

I’ve heard Muslims say many times that “the prophets of the OT don’t mention Jesus”. Actually, this assumtion goes against the Jewish quest to find Messianic passages. Granted, many Jews today reject that Jesus is their Messiah, however, how can one escape the clear connection between Christ and Isaiah 53, Daniel 9, etc?

Further, how can a Jew who rejects Jesus Christ as Messiah, make sense of Psalm 110? This is one of the greatest Messianic Psalms in all the Torah (OT). Yet, the only way to make sense of this Messianic Psalm is if Jesus, as revealed in the NT, is the Divine Messiah.

This Psalm says two profound things:

1. In Psalm 110:1 David says, “The LORD (Yahweh) said to my Lord (a lord who descends from David), sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”

The mindblowing thing about this statement is that it goes against our understanding of king-ship. It went against the Jewish understaning of king-ship. One who decends from a king isn’t then supposed to be higher ranking than that king. Yet, here David is saying a king will come from him, yet will be in a position of dominion and authority equal to Yahweh.

Even the Pharisees who wanted to trick Jesus couldn’t answer this. In Matthew 22:45, Jesus asked them “if David calls him Lord, then how can he be his son (David’s son)?” They had no reply.

2. Here’s the amazing thing, however! In order to have answered this supposed dilemma, all they would have had to do is go 3 verses down Psalm 110!

Psalm 110:4 says, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 7 zooms in on this concept. The priest that God would send us in order to bring us back to God would not come from the Aaronic priesthood, would not of mere human origin, and would not be another temporal priest.

This is exactly why Jesus Christ is called the High Priest, because once his priesthood is consumated, there are to be no other priests. Priest simply means “bridge builder” by the way. He bridges the infinite gap of sinful humans to Yahweh (the only true, holy, and eternal God). And Jesus meets all the criterion of Psalm 110:4 in Hebrews 7.

Jesus is a high priest in the order of Melchizedek because he isn’t from the Levite tribe (the tribe that the Aaronic priests decended from). Rather Jesus is from the kingly tribe, the tribe of Judah (the same tribe David is from). Jesus is a priest forever because he is Yahweh, the 2nd person of the Trinity. He wont die and be replaced like mere human priests.

Thus, it’s utterly blasphemous for even Mormons to assume they continue the Melchizedek priesthood! Jesus fulfills it forever. It can’t be un-done, re-done, or continued.

Conclusion:

So when Jesus stumped the Pharisees, all they had to do was quote the same Psalm three verses down. Jesus can descend from David yet be above David by being the God-Man, born of a virgin (God taking on additional human form so as to interact with his own creation). Jesus can live the perfect life in our place, be condemned for our sin, and raise himself from the dead and become a High Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. He’s the only one who can be in the order of Melchizedek because he’s a King, is Yahweh, is our Savior, thus, is a Priest forever.

The only way imaginable to make sense of Psa 110:1 is with Psa 110:4 and admitting that Jesus Christ is Yahweh coming to save us, and now we serve him as King forever. It’s just another mindblowing revelation of Scripture that is awesomely Christ-centered.

The Jews can’t make sense of this, Muslims can’t make sense of this, Jehova’s Witnesses can’t make sense of this, Unitarians can’t make sense of this, and Mormons can’t make sense of this, unless they bow the knee to Jesus Christ our risen Lord as being Yahweh.

  1. Thanks for inviting me again to discuss.

Before I answer your question, I would like you to stay calm because in this discussion we talk about different person and I may bring some prophecy verse in Bible as my judgement. If you agree, then I will continued..
    *************************************************************************************
Mt. 26:63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, [Or Messiah; also in verse 68] the Son of God.”
Mt. 26:64 “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Mt. 26:65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.
Mt. 26:66 What do you think?” “He is worthy of death,” they answered.
Mt. 26:67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him

In the verse, Jesus personally declared that the will be Son of Man that sitting at the right hand of Mighty One (Father or God).

Who is that Son of Man. So we cant denied there will be another man that come to earth to save humanity.
    *************************************************************************************

Ac. 3:26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

When God raise the Jesus (Servant in verse refer to Jesus), and the servant that being raise is Jesus.

Then he sent “him” first to you to bless you by turning each of you from wicked ways.

Him? Who is him? To bless you by turning each of you from wicked ways.

In the verse who is he. For sure it was mention regarding future/ and prophecy

    ************************************************************************************
Are you agree with me? There will be another person coming?
I will quote some other verse later.

  2. I wont get mad. Sometimes I get frusterated if the other person contradicts themselves, but I wont get mad at you.

In Mat 26 Jesus is quoting back to a Messianic text, Daniel 7. The Jews knew that Jesus was applying this passage to himself. In Dan 7 this son of man is unique. It says this son of man will have authority over every person and will be worshipped by everyone.

Again, Jesus makes claims that prove that he’s much more than a rasul. He’s also much more than a mere human. The title “son of man” is unique when it is applied to Jesus.

In the verse who is he. For sure it was mention regarding future/ and prophecy

The Bible also says that the Father will do things in the future, so your argument is inconsistent. Again, with the Trinity, God is both 3 persons and 1 person, yet we don’t know in what way the persons are different in their oneness. They are different in their function, however. The Father wills, the Son interacts and carries out, and the Spirit applies the work of the Son. And just because one person sends another person doesn’t mean one is greater in nature. All three persons of the Trinity are equal in nature. Again, Jesus is eternal according to John 1:1, but he also interacts within history and uses finite language to communicate his truths to us finite creatures. Jesus is turning us from wicked ways. The Bible also says that we will still sin and that perfection wont come until the return of Christ.

Read my post above. The only way Jesus can descend from David and be greater than David is if he is a High Priest in the order of Melchizedek. Jesus must be God who takes on additional human nature in order to fulfill Psa 110:1-4. It’s the ONLY way.

Now I have 2 questions for you:

Surah 5 says the trinity is the father, the son, and Mary. Yet, the Bible does not teach this about Mary. Do you admit that the Quran is in error?

Also, Surah 6 says the Bible cannot be changed, yet later the Quran says it can be changed. So do you agree this is also a contradiction of the Quran?

    Grace in Christ to you,

    Cameron

  3. Cameron,

    In Jews wording,
    Father is refer to God,
Son of God is refer Christ/ Messiah – Christ is the English term for the Greek Χριστός (Khristós) meaning “the anointed one”. It is a translation of the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Māšîaḥ), usually transliterated into English as Messiah or Mashiach.

The Anointed One is refer to prophet who are priests, kings.

I think you need to put a dictionary of Jews before you.
    ************************************************************************************
    How I relate the Mt. 26:63-67 ;
When we want to study the verse (with others- who are not trusting your doctorine), we should take out all unnecessary thought/ brain wash doctrine as Trinity and etc. As the only reference that we have is only Bible. I think we should stick to Bible to understand it.
This is more toward to find the riddle and answer, not to prove doctrine of Trinity or to prove Islam in Bible.

Disagreement between two faith are suppose to be forecast and acceptable upon discussion. But how are discussion growth is the beauty of discussion.
Don’t too desperate to win a discussion, it just showing the weakness of your faith.
    ************************************************************************************
Actually we want to discuss about Quran or Bible?

Surah 5 says the trinity is the father, the son, and Mary. Yet, the Bible does not teach this about Mary. Do you admit that the Quran is in error?

Also, Surah 6 says the Bible cannot be changed, yet later the Quran says it can be changed. So do you agree this is also a contradiction of the Quran?

And I do not know which verse you are quoting.

In Quran there was no contradiction of Jesus and his mother, Mary.

Jesus is Apostle and his mother, Mary is a virgin who getting birth.
You must understand that Quran are not Bible, we said the Bible is corrupted.

I think you need to understand the creed of our faith before raising the question. You should be understand it before starting discussion at this level.
Where got the Bible cannot be changed in Quran?

I think you never read Quran yet, so study it first before discussion. I think you just quoting from website you you think that is correct about Islam. And it is not, then it become a weak argument.

  4. Hifzah,

I think you need to put a dictionary of Jews before you.

I know what it means. But we don’t derive theology from dictionaries. We derive it from EVERYTHING Scripture teaches. You’re not connecting the Biblical dots.

Psa 110:1,4 are huge Messianic texts in the Torah. What do they say about who the Messiah will be? Hebrews 7 answers this. The Messiah cannot be a mere rasul. The Messiah must be God himself. It’s the only way for these to make sense.

You have not argued otherwise. You have just given your dictionary.

This is more toward to find the riddle and answer, not to prove doctrine of Trinity or to prove Islam in Bible.

I never said the doctrine of the Trinity was worded in this passage. Once Scripture is taken as a whole it is necessarily implied. This passage does disprove the Quran. The Quran teaches Jesus was only a rasul, and we both know that a rasul isn’t worshiped by everyone and can’t be the final judge of everyone. So even if you don’t think Mat 26 infers the Trinity, that’s OK, it still disproves the Quran. We know that the earliest texts we have of Christ teach this, and we know the earliest Christians believed this. History disproves the Quran, thus your religion is false. Because you start, not with logic and consistency, but with assuming Islam is true, you are forced to deny the truth of history. I urge you to think of these things more honestly because truth is so much better when it’s true.

Even further, I’d say Muhammad should have understood the Bible even better before writing a book at its level! The Quran misrepresents the Bible. Muhammad probably didn’t even know Greek or Hebrew, but only Arabic. He probably never read a word of the Bible but only heard false stories about it’s teachings. That’s why the Quran misprepresents the Bible.

Don’t too desperate to win a discussion, it just showing the weakness of your faith.

I’m not desperate to win. I’m desperate for you to deal with my arguments. Sorry, but you still haven’t begun to deal with them. I will say the same thing to you. Not answering arguments shows the weakness of your faith.

I think you need to understand the creed of our faith before raising the question. You should be understand it before starting discussion at this level.

I will say the same thing to you: “Hifzah, listen up! I think you need to understand the creed of our faith before raising the question. You should be understand it before starting discussion at this level!”

I think you never read Quran yet, so study it first before discussion. I think you just quoting from website you you think that is correct about Islam. And it is not, then it become a weak argument.

If you were aware of objections to the Quran you’d be aware of my arguments.

The Quran says in Surah 5:116 “O Jesus the son of Mary! Didst thou say unto men, ‘Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah?” He will say: “Glory to Thee! Never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, Thou wouldst indeed have known it. Thou knowest what is in my heart, though I know not what is in Thine. For Thou knowest in full all that is hidden.”

Show me where it’s documented that Christians ever believed that Mary was a god alongside Allah? If we never believed it, then why does the Quran say this as though we believed it?
